When Hanson attends Larchmont High and listens to lectures by fundamentalist biology teacher James Crawford, he discovers that many of the parents and students have a hard time accepting the teaching of Darwin's theory of evolution. They would rather have the Bible's Genesis taught, despite the fact that it is illegal to do so. It looks to Hanson as if the entire town could have committed the book burning offense, he was sent undercover to investigate.Crawford uses his son Cameron, who was revived after a near-drowning incident, as the miracle that inspires him, despite the consequences; to teach God's word. Hanson befriends Cameron and discovers that Cameron is suffering grave emotional damage from being put on such a high pedestal in the name of God.It is only after Cameron has another near-fatal accident of his own creating that Crawford and the townspeople see the dangers of being overly zealous believers.
