It was fifty years ago tonight, that the Beatles performed live for the first time on U.S. television. An estimated 73 million people tuned into The Ed Sullivan Show the night of Feb. 9, 1964, solidifying the Beatles place in American pop culture. Screaming teenagers filled the seats of the Manhattan studio where it was broadcast. It was renamed the Ed Sullivan Theater and now houses Late Night With David Letterman.
