The Sharden passenger ferry is the latest vessel at the centre of a maritime drama in Italian waters. Some 300 people were rescued unharmed when the ship rammed into a pier in a storm ripping a gaping hole in its hull. Shaken passengers say there were no lifejackets and they were told little about what was happening. The incident comes less than a month after the Costa Condordia cruise ship capsized after hitting rocks as it sailed just 150 metres off the island of Giglio.
