Syria has been in the shadow of war for two and a half years, but on Wednesday much of the country was under a literal blackout. It happened after rebels reportedly attacked a gas pipeline that feeds a regional power station. One Damascus resident who wanted to remain anonymous said 'The whole city just went dark'. Amateur video posted online purports to show the capitol Damascus during the blackout as flames, reportedly from the pipeline, burn in the distance.
