We here at BWE have been vehement supporters of The Gute long before he completely embraced his ironic appeal, from our moderately unsuccessful petition to finance an 8th Police Academy film to our public endorsement of Gute to win Dancing With The Stars. Lately, though, Gute;s been on such an irony-embracing tear, I;m finding it difficult to even think back to a time when the mention of his name on a pop culture blog, even esoterically, would have been the slightest bit surprising. The latest milestone of Gute self-awareness comes to us in the form of a Funny or Die ad for Steve Guttenberg;s Steakhouse, and even though I;m a huge fan of both Guttey and stretched puns for no reason, at what point does a pseudo-celeb actually embrace their ironic popularity so forcefully, they stop being ironic?
