Synopsis >

In a Mail Call video, R. Lee Ermey answers a question from Stan of New Jersey who wants to know what an army duck is. Known as the DUKW, the army duck is a sea-going truck; it was the armys answer to moving men and material from ship to shore and beyond. In the early days of World War II, our boys needed to figure out how to transport men and supplies to in-land dumps without time-consuming off-loading on the shore. The duck could carry as much as 6,000 pounds with ease; it could do about fifty miles an hour on land and about six miles an hour in water. The duck caught on fast and in just three years, we made 21,000 of them.
