David Copperfield

Dickens' classic story about an orphaned boy who, with the help of a kindly aunt, escapes his stepfather's cruelty and grows up to become a successful author and marries his childhood sweetheart. Over the years, critics have repeatedly praised the exceptional craftsmanship and talent that went into this Oscar-nominated production. Starring W.C. Fields (The Bank Dick) in his only dramatic role, Oscar-winner Lionel Barrymore (It's A Wonderful Life, Captains Courageous), Freddie Bartholomew (Captains Courageous) and Maureen O'Sullivan (The Thin Man). Directed by Academy Award-winner George Cukor (My Fair Lady, Adam's Rib). Produced by Hollywood legend David O. Selznik (Gone With the Wind, A Star is Born, Rebecca). Leonard Maltin gives it four stars and declares it, a treat from start to finish. Selected by the prestigious American Film Institute as one of the 400 best American films of all time.
