Sami tracks down Rafe to question him about the disappearing act he pulled over Christmas. She gets more than she bargained for when Rafe reveals he saw her close moment with EJ and decided he’d had it with the mixed signals he’s been getting from her. She confesses she’s been pulled in two different directions. Rafe says he’s not interested in playing those kinds of games any longer and tells her he’s done. Earlier, EJ tells Chad about his encounter with Sami over the holiday – he is determined to get Sami to commit to him – and soon. When EJ tracks her down, he tells her he wants to spend New Year’s Eve with her… and not just as friends. Knowing Rafe is out of the picture, Sami tells him he’s got a date. Meanwhile, Nicole asks Eric to spend New Year’s Eve with her because she’s still missing Daniel and doesn’t want to spend the night alone. Eric declines because of a conflict and suggests some volunteer work she can do that night to pass the time. Nicole reacts, less than thrilled that he is trying to change her. Later, when she runs into Rafe, they’re both in sour moods but wind up cheering each other up. Rafe tells Nicole he’s done competing for Sami. The two of them realize they have no plans to ring in the New Year… and decide to do it together setting them on a collision course with EJ and Sami. Daniel and Jennifer have a lunch date set but Jennifer confesses to Hope she’s worried that with all the time that’s passed since the last time they were together, things might be different. Their chance may have come and gone. As she says this, Daniel happily anticipates their date. Later, he gets another reminder of the brief time he thought he was Parker’s father and is affected. As he talks to Maggie about it, Jennifer arrives and misconstrues what she hears, mistakenly thinking Daniel is having second thoughts. She decides to let him off the hook and sends him a text message canceling their date. But in the nick of time, Maggie and Hope realize what’s happened and clue in Daniel. He arrives at Jennifer’s door, flowers in hand. EJ sees Chad have a brief encounter with Abigail and encourages him to see if something’s there. Chad initially thinks EJ is only pushing because it’ll get his brother off the hook for messing things up with Melanie. But EJ says it’s time for Chad to realize he’s never going to get Melanie back. Later, Chad runs into Abigail once more and is about to ask her to spend New Year’s Eve with him but he pulls back when he hears she’s got plans.
