A childless middle-aged couple -- freelance book translator Sophie Bentwood (Shirley MacLaine) and her lawyer husband, Otto (Kenneth Mars) -- face the deterioration of their Brooklyn neighborhood and the parallel corrosion of their marriage in this compelling drama.
