The alternate version of the prequel to The Exorcist. Having lived through traumatizing events in WWII, Father Merrin (Stellan Skarsgaard, King Arthur, Deep Blue Sea) takes a break from the Church to conduct archaeological excavations in British-administered East Africa, where he digs out what appears to be a pagan church dedicated to a demon. Uncovering the unholy site allows the demon to escape from its hellish prison, and Merrin must battle to contain its evil - a battle that, unknown to the priest, will not conclude until the final moments of the original Exorcist. Also stars Gabriel Mann (The Bourne Identity, The
Bourne Supremacy), Clara Bellar (Artificial Intelligence: AI) and Ralph Brown (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace). Directed by Golden Globe-nominated Paul Schrader.
