Within an hour of the discovery that Amy has run away from home, the authorities are at the Abbott house to scour for clues and interview her devastated parents and brother. However, Edna arrives, bewildered by the fuss, and explains that Amy spent the night at Edna's house. This sets off a series of harsh family crises, between Edna and Dr. Abbott, Rose and Edna and--perhaps most damaging, Dr. Abbott and Rose, who asserts herself for the first time in her turbulent marriage. Amy opts to remain at her grandparents' house, but she soon discovers that she cannot evade adult responsibility. Meanwhile, with Delia furious at him for dating Linda (recurring guest star Marcia Cross), Dr. Brown tries desperately to reconcile with his daughter and find out what's bothering her--but a father/daughter camping trip may not be the best idea. And Dr. Brown copes with a woman who wants to get pregnant using the frozen sperm of her dead husband, despite the objections of her current husband.
