A marshal (Fred MacMurray) solves the murder of a town's previous sheriff, to the almost complete disinterest of the townspeople. Soon, he lands in even more hot water when a lawyer turns the townsfolk against him. To add a further wrinkle, most of the townsfolk also become convinced that the man jailed for the murder is innocent. Costars James Drury (of TV's Virginian fame), Denver Pyle and Robert Vaughn.
