When the night shift nurse calls off, Christina (Jada Pinkett Smith) is forced to pull a 24 hour shift. The first case of the night is Crystal, a teenager on the brink of delivery followed by two married couples laying claim to her unborn baby. Meanwhile, Tom (Michael Vartan) asks Ray ( David Julian Hirsch) to cover for him as medic at a friend's hockey game so he can go out on a date. Ray agrees unenthusiastically but is pleasantly surprised. Bobbi (Suleka Mathew) finds Isabel (Aisha Hinds) back on the streets and invites her to her apartment where the two bond unexpectedly.
