Hunter survives a contract killer's attack, and continues to pursue Big Jack Hemmings, while McCall remains in the hospital to await a crucial operation. When Jack is murdered, Hunter becomes the prime suspect. The investigation changes when Hunter learns that Laura Decker was Big Jack's wife and is responsible for the killings, including the attack on McCall. Hunter arrests Laura shortly after McCall undergoes successfulsurgery.
