Synopsis >

It’s the night of the autism fundraising party Abe’s organized in Lexie’s honor, with most of Salem gathered at the town square. At the DiMera mansion, Roman questions Will about EJ’s whereabouts, as Sami and EJ escape. Later, Sami and EJ elicit Will’s help so EJ can see his children once more before fleeing town. They meet at a warehouse near the square, and after a heartfelt goodbye between the children and their father, Will takes the children back to the pub. Before EJ can leave, Roman and an undetected Lucas arrive, having followed Will. Roman aims his gun at EJ, who is on a catwalk, when Sami steps in front of EJ and into the line of fire. She tells EJ to run just as the gas explosion hits. Roman and Lucas are knocked unconscious by debris. Sami hangs from the catwalk, and starts to fall, but she is caught by EJ. As a second explosion hits, it appears EJ is going to lose his grip on Sami and that she’s going to fall to certain death. Chad and Brady are still in the tunnels searching for Melanie. In a different area, Andrew is just about to reveal Gabi’s role to Melanie when there’s a small explosion in the tunnels, knocking down Chad and Brady and separately knocking Andrew out, trapping him beneath debris. Melanie knows this is their chance to escape, but Gabi fakes a twisted ankle to go back and help Andrew get away. Meanwhile, Chad and Brady revive and split up to search. Brady finds Melanie and Chad finds Andrew and Gabi. Chad is furious and is on the verge of doing serious damage to Andrew when suddenly, the gas ignites and a huge explosion rocks the tunnels. The blast shoots up into the ballroom and the square above, raining glass and debris down on everyone gathered there. Madison is dressed for her wedding to Brady, not realizing her groom is in the tunnels with Chad searching for Melanie. Madison is at first confident that Brady will show, but as time passes and Ian provokes her insecurities, she begins to lose faith. There is open animosity between John and Ian as Ian tortures Madison by telling her that Brady has obviously changed his mind about marrying her. Later, Ian is isolated with Madison in a corridor of the ballroom when the explosion happens. The relationship between Cameron and Abigail builds, as does Jack’s renewed relationships with Abigail and Jennifer. When the explosion hits, Abigail is trapped in an elevator. Nicole tries again to distract Daniel from his driving worry about Melanie by getting him to go somewhere where they can be alone. He strongly declines, and is caught in the raining debris opposite Nicole, who is alone in a corner of the ballroom, having troublesome cramps when the explosion hits.
