This is the portrait of a family's struggle to heal the wounds caused by America's involvement in Vietnam, as seen through the experiences of a 17-year-old teen girl. In attempting to learn more about her father who was killed in the war before she was born, Samantha tries to break through to her reclusive cynical uncle, a ravaged survivor of the undeclared conflict, who may be the only person able to help her understand her loss.
