Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman pool their musical talents and hit the high road to laughter in this outrageous comedy written and directed by Elaine May. In a last-ditch effort to find work, modestly talented singer-songwriters Chuck Clarke (Hoffman) and Lyle Rogers (Beatty) accept a booking in Marrakech from a down-and-out agent (Jack Weston). So they are off to magical, mysterious Morocco, with a short layover in the political powder keg of Ishtar. But Ishtar turns out to be more than a layover when the two suddenly find themselves caught in a crossfire between a beautiful revolutionary (Isabelle Adjani) and an overzealous CIA agent (Charles Grodin). Suddenly the fate of the entire Middle East is in the hands of two men who can't even carry a tune.
