Journey from Pinsk -- Journey From Pinsk is a depiction of the film maker's fragmented memories about her mother who grew up in the World War II ravaged district of Pinsk in Belarus. She is represented by a woman wearing an emerald velvet coat that travels in a train carriage looking out the window at an ever-changing vista of events, symbols and environments. This woman is distanced, yet also engages with the passing events. The train operates as a metaphor for life. These mixed memories of family heritage are an unconscious accumulation of inherited images. We pass an ideal garden of beauty , a pond of pink water lilies with flamingoes, butterflies, frogs, dragonflies, swans and birds. Her mothers youth filled with optimism and dreams of love and marriage . Traveling on to more ghostly remnants of Russian imagery with the use of traditional dresses, sleighs, and holy figures in a bleak snowed-in cemetery inhabited by black crows, cats and clothes without a body on stands highlights the turmoil and devastation experienced by her.
