Darezhan Omirbaev directed this 1998 Russian film -- a spare and muted (yet compelling and incisive) account of despair, rootlessness, materialism and amorality. Killer follows a chauffeur named Marat (Talgat Assetov) who winds up in serious trouble with the mafia after he accidentally hits a rich man's car.
