Lantern s Zachary Devereux Fairbrother and Emily Robb are no psychologists, but in their latest video for Rock N Roll Rorschach, they re holding up something like a warped, wild inkblot and asking, What do you see? And, as every patient sees something different, there s no telling what you ll gather from the psychedelic video. Upon first glance, it looks like just another garage rock band going plain crazy. But then everything gets a little more twisted when you notice the creepy guy frolicking around in a cape in the background and that small skull in the corner. And once you get past all that to listen to the lyrics, you ll start to question what you re experiencing even more. When Fairbrother sings, The Joker sits and laughs/ And you go and ask/ Is this good or bad? you find yourself asking the same question. But it all sort of makes sense in the context of Rock N Roll Rorschach, a raw, rough and truly rock and roll album that the Philly-based duo released earlier this year. And while some tracks, like the manic Out of Our Heads, carry a heavy message, others, like the seductive King of the Jungle, are just a damn good time. Some have a message, some don t, some of them are supposed to make the listener find their own kind of meaning in the music, the duo told Hive. People experience the art then come away with their own interpretations. The video itself was intended to be fun and danceable but a little scary, like the song itself. You can draw your own messages. Rock N Roll Rorschach is out now on Sophomore Lounge.
