When her husband is fingered as a dissident and arrested by the Hungarian secret police, a 1950s newlywed (Mari Torcsik) settles in with her mother-in-law (played at the director's request by Lili Darvas, the wife of Hungarian novelist-playwright Ferenc Molnar), who believes her son has instead moved to America. Not wanting to upset the elderly woman, the young wife pens an elaborate trail of letters that describe his wonderful life overseas.
