Along with five other documentary filmmakers, Paul has agreed to turn his camera on himself and Jamie for a fifteen minute film about their everyday life. Upset with the short notice, Jamie decides that their home could use a little panache. After asking Fran to bring over a valuable painting she owns, Jamie tries redecorating their apartment with flowers stolen from a neighbor and an issue of Scientific American magazine for their coffee table. Although Paul will have none of it and insists they make it as realistic as possible, with the cameras rolling, the Buchmans cannot loosen up. Worried there is no way she can compete with the other filmmakers, which include a gay couple and an ex-con who married a junkie, Jamie decides she needs to be more interesting, too. But her attempt is interrupted when Ira arrives and uses the opportunity to plug his sporting goods store.
