Levelheaded high schooler Matt Leland (Chris O'Donnell) falls for the seductive, impulsive and clinically depressed Casey Roberts (Drew Barrymore). When she's institutionalized after a suicide attempt, Matt breaks her out and they head for the open road searching for adventure.
