Veronica Callahan (Taylor Schilling) is a whip-smart nurse who has just returned to work at Mercy Hospital after a tour of service in Iraq. She's not afraid to bend the rules to save her patients, but her outspoken attitude might wind up costing her job. As she tries to pick up the pieces of her marriage to her high school sweetheart Mike (Diego Klattenhoff), she's caught off-guard by the hospital's latest new hire Dr. Chris Sands (James Tupper). Meanwhile, Veronica's best friend and colleague Sonia (Jaime Lee Kirchner) thinks she's finally found a man who can live up to her lofty expectations and rookie nurse Chloe (Michelle Trachtenberg) learns the hard way what it means to be a nurse.
