When the mysterious Miranda (Christina Ricci) walks into a suburban Yorkshire library, it is love at first sight for romantic, Elvis-quaffed librarian Frank. Miranda disappears, and Frank follows a trail leading to London, where he discovers that Miranda is a con artist who, under the guidance of her mentor Christian (John Hurt), is trying to seduce businessman Nailor (Kyle MacLachlan) into giving away his money for nothing. With the help of his friend, Frank lends Miranda a hand while wondering whether he can ever trust her again as they find themselves fighting to escape a world of high stakes business and crime.
