Matt Dillon is a perpetually unemployed, alcohol-swilling writer whose work is continually rejected by publishing houses. He hooks up with fellow barfly Jan (Lili Taylor), then moves on to gold-digging Laura (Marisa Tomei) as his downward spiral continues.
