While bands like Franz Ferdinand and the Killers mine the 80 s for new wave influences like The Cure and New Order, French foursome Phoenix draws inspiration from the softer, poppier side of the decade. Their debut, Alphabetical, offers smooth, melodic jams that wouldn t be out of place on a Hall and Oates album.
