Drunken and defiant laborer Lasse Karlsson (a transcendent Max Von Sydow) and his young son Pelle (Pelle Hevenegaard) migrate from Sweden to Denmark in search of farm work. They find it -- along with much more than they bargained for -- on the Kongstrup farm.
