Undercover cop Reno Raines plans to reveal that top officers in a big-city California police force have formed their own secret assassination squad for profit. The culprits are Lt. Donald Dutch Dixon and Sgt. Buzzy Burrell. To protect themselves, they free a psychotic killer, CletusHog' Adams, from prison and hire him to murder Reno before he can identify them.Hog invades Reno's darkened motel room and accidentally shoots his fiance, Valerie Prentice. Hog escapes as Reno rushes Valerie to the hospital, where she lapses into an irreversible coma. As Burrell inspects the room, Dixon kills him with Reno's gun, leaving evidence that implicates Reno.
