A plan to celebrate Jeff’s (Joel McHale) early graduation is unexpectedly disrupted by the study group’s evil doppelgangers from the Darkest Timeline.
Abed’s (Danny Pudi) research into the study group’s history uncovers an overlooked series of chance encounters that led each of them to Greendale.
When Annie (Alison Brie) and Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) learn that Leonard (Richard Erdman) is actually holding the spot as the class valedictorian, they join forces to bring him down. Meanwhile, Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) reminisce about one of their favorite body switching films, “Freaky Friday,” and when they inadvertently re-enact a critical scene, things start becoming a little funky at Greendale. JEFF ORGANIZES A HOLIDAY PARTY – ANNIE SECRETLY INVITES PROFESSOR CORNWALLIS – MALCOLM MCDOWELL GUEST STARS – Jeff (Joel McHale) organizes a lovely holiday gathering at his apartment but Annie (Alison Brie) secretly invites Professor Cornwallis (recurring guest star Malcolm McDowell), to get in his good graces. When it becomes apparent that Professor Cornwallis intends to give them a bad grade on their joint history paper, the atmosphere quickly deteriorates and the group takes decisive action. Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash also star.
Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) prompts the study group to use puppets to relive the traumatic events of a recent adventure.
As Jeff (Joel McHale) sets out to embarrass Britta (Gillian Jacobs) when she announces a dance to celebrate women’s independence, Abed (Danny Pudi) looks to realize a lifelong dream by shuttling between two dates in one night. Guest starring Sophie B. Hawkins.
Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) enlists the study group to make the campus more attractive in order to woo a wealthy student to Greendale. Meanwhile, a class on how to teach P.E. pits Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) against Troy (Donald Glover).
GREENDALE COMES TOGETHER TO UNLOCK THE MYSTERY OF CHANG’S AMNESIA – ABED FILMS THE EVENTS FOR A DOCUMENTARY – As the campus strives to get to the bottom of Chang’s (Ken Jeong) memory loss, Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) enlists the group to help secure a grant for further medical research and Abed (Danny Pudi) films the activities for a documentary. Jeff (Joel McHale), however, suspects there is more to Chang’s memory loss than meets the eye. Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover also star.
As Britta (Gillian Jacobs) follows Jeff (Joel McHale) home to see his estranged father (guest star James Brolin) on Thanksgiving, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) invites the rest of the study group to spend the holiday with her judgmental in-laws.
After losing out in registration for “The History of Ice Cream,” the study group begins their European History class with Professor Noel Cornwallis (Malcolm McDowell, “Entourage,” “Franklin & Bash”). To make matters worse, the group encounters the return of the arrogant German students from last season, which Jeff (Joel McHale) and Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) faced over the foosball table. Meanwhile, much to Dean Pelton’s (Jim Rash) dismay, Chang (Ken Jeong) returns to campus with a bad case of “Changnesia,” appearing not to remember anything of last year’s Armageddon.
Troy (Donald Glover) worries about losing Abed (Danny Pudi) to a fellow obsessive Inspector Spacetime fan at a convention for the show, while Annie (Alison Brie) fantasizes about being married to Jeff (Joel McHale) after he backs out of their weekend plans. On the way to a Halloween party, the study group must free Pierce (Chevy Chase) from his panic room and slowly comes to suspect that his mansion is being haunted by the ghost of his late father. Guest starring Giancarlo Esposito.
When Jeff (Joel McHale) announces his plan to graduate early, Abed (Danny Pudi) retreats to his “happy place”—a cheesy sitcom version of Greendale where the study group must start over as freshmen. Meanwhile, Troy (Donald Glover) fights with Britta (Gillian Jacobs) over a first-day-of-school tradition and Annie (Alison Brie) worries that she is the only one of her friends who hasn’t changed for the better.

Shirley and Pierce learn that their sandwich shop will get put in the cafeteria. They instantly fight over who’s name will be on the lease and it escalates to Pierce suing Shirley and taking her to court. Jeff steps into be Shirley’s attorney and Alan Conner (Jeff’s former co-worker) represents Pierce. Alan asks Jeff to throw the case to get his old job back at the law firm when he graduates. Shirley allows him to, but her selflessness makes him realize that his friends are more important and his brilliant closing argument causes Pierce to drop the suit. Britta tries to be Abed’s therapist to help cope with the loss of Troy to the AC school, but the therapy brings out Evil Abed. He makes Britta cry and tries to make his dark timeline a reality. He goes to cut off Jeff’s arm (per the dark timeline) but Jeff’s impassioned closing argument snaps the real Abed back. Dean Laybourne takes Troy under his wing at the AC school, but Troy is incredibly bored. Laybourne gets killed in a freak AC accident and Troy smells something fishy. Instead of leaving the trade school he stays and challenges Murray (Laybourne’s former underling) to an ancient AC competition. He beats Murray and learns that he’s the one who killed Laybourne.
The group realizes they have to take down Chang themselves in a caper. Chang is running Greendale into the ground, but board thinks he’s doing a great job because of lies. It’s his birthday and the group surveys the campus. Troy reaches out to the AC school for help, they won’t help unless they can have Troy. He turns the AC people down. They break into Chang’s birthday gala with classic caper beats. The get to the room where the Dean is being held and they get caught. They get imprisoned. Chang tells them he’s going to burn down the school to cover up his mess. The group manages to escape and gets into a razor scooter chase with Chang’s kid minions. Chang escapes at the last minute and the board realizes everything has been a lie. They put the Dean back in power to clean up the mess Chang made and the group is reinstated at Greendale. Because they ended up getting help from the AC school Troy has to leave the group to join them.
