On a walk across the moors, Jane meets the beautiful, wealthy Rosamond Oliver. She is clearly in love with St. John, and he with her. However, St. John's icy will presents an obstacle to marriage. He forces himself to subordinate his passions to his religious calling to serve as a missionary. By contrast, Diana and Mary declare it a crime to deny love. Soon, at a visit to Morton church, Jane pushes back memories of her failed wedding. She accepts an offer from St. John to become mistress of a new school for poor girls of the parish. Having decided to stay, Jane's memories come flooding back; after the wedding, Rochester passionately begged her to stay, claiming them to be true soulmates. In the oil rich fields of Oklahoma, oil speculator John Maverick (Arlen), with his friend and partner Chicopee Nevins buy s a large spread of land in the hope that some part of it contains oil. However, Maverick's fly-by-night business practices always leave him on the lookout for new oil land investors. When Nevins is killed in an accident, Nan Deerling (Judge) fraudulantly poses as Nevin's sister to buy out Nevin's half of the business, along with her con artist partner Oliver Westbrook. He has a keen mind for business, and soon Maverick is close to his dream of gaining riches. But Maverick's investment is threatened by villainous fellow oil speculator Mike Rawlins (Crabbe), who is known for torching his competitions' oil rigs.

"Elmer Clifton loved directing mystery movies and excelled at producing masterpieces. The city of missing girls is one of the jewels that bears Clifton's trademark. He also teamed up with Oliver Drake to produce an entertaining screenplay and convert what might have been a predictable plot to a fascinating mystery. The casting too is done with care and H.B. Warner plays the part of a police captain to perfection. The dashing John Archer who plays an Assistant District Attorney and the charming Astrid Allwyn who does a wonderful job of portraying an aspiring reporter support him admirably. Philip Van Zandt deserves a special mention for his fabulous portrayal of a smooth-talking, heard hearted conman. Between them, these four master artists have produced a memorable drama that is certain to entertain, amuse and enthrall viewers for a long time. Don't miss it!"
