In the bar with Jeff and Patrick, Steve is still cringing at the memory of watching a documentary with Susan the night before in which the narrator revealed a guarded secret: all men masturbate, even when they are in a stable relationship. So, Jane and Sally are obsessed with finding out whether Steve still goes solo. Meanwhile, Susan has invited her notoriously frank parents over for dinner, while Patrick and Jeff scour sex shops looking for Patrick Junior.

Pain-relief or natural birth? That is the latest decision facing parents-to-be, Susan and Steve. They head to their antenatal (prenatal) class, and Susan takes Sally along as back-up just in case Steve "can't cope." But Sally, who was initially flattered, soon finds herself seeking the solace of a string quartet and some back-up for herself. Meanwhile, Steve finds himself haunted by the ghost of spanking lesbians past and Jane tries to "out-keen" Oliver.

It's late at night, and they are all on a phone call that will not die. Revelations are coming out thick and fast. Steve is a feckless, feelingless wanker, Susan suffers from raging hormones, Sally warns of jelly midriffs, and Patrick has a pregnancy fetish. Even more troubling is that fact that Jane keeps the keys to all her ex-lovers's flats.

Jeff has finally found his female counterpart, a woman who can't help blurting out ridiculous things if she's attracted to someone. To make matters worse, Julia is a senior manager at his firm (his boss, actually). After a sequence of typical Jeff blunders, he is in despair. Soon, however, Julia kisses Jeff and he thinks that his luck has changed. She leads him blindfolded into a conference room, where Jeff celebrates his good fortune by doing an ecstatic strip tease. Unfortunately, Julia wasn't luring him into the conference room for sex, she was leading him to his surprise birthday party.

The ultimate "ticking time bomb" lands on everyone's door: a wedding invitation. Now Steve must answer the ultimate question: Do you have a future, or are you getting married?

Jane's attention has been caught by a stunningly handsome guy in the bar. It is lust at first sight. After contact is established, Bill suggests that she join him for dinner at his place, despite how horrible Jane had been to his friends. Jane can only believe this is an invitation for a romantic dinner for two, but it isn't. Meanwhile, Patrick is locked in an insane competition with Ivan, an acquaintance from work. Since Ivan has a glamorous trophy wife, Patrick decides he needs one too, just for the evening. He recruits Sally for the part, then changes his mind and claims Susan for his bride, only because he needs a blonde. Seeing Susan pretending to be Patrick's wife finally makes Steve's mind up for him, he proposes to Susan in front of the whole group.

A very nervous Jeff agrees to have a friendly drink with Wilma who comes clean, she really likes him. After a spectacularly awkward, drink-sipping silence, Wilma offers him unconditional sex while the panel of 4 continues to listen in. Jeff is no match in a debate with "devil woman" Wilma. She knows every argument to get what she wants from a man. Jeff paints himself into a terrifying conversational corner, until he is forced to blurt out the reason he can't have sex with Wilma.

Susan and Steve have split, literally, and they are both sleepless and miserable. Steve seeks solace in lager and dirty video games; Susan in a soggy handkerchief and self-help books about soulmates, faith, and why men are rubbish. Both rally their friends and head for The Temple of Woman a prodding, waxing, tweezing beauty salon for Susan, and a whooping, hollering lap-dancing club for Steve, where Jeff bumps into an old friend.

Steve finds a freckle on his bottom and reaches for the Book of Death to diagnose the problem. Sally and Patrick have become new-partner-hating best friends, and everyone gathers around to meet James, Jane's celibate boyfriend. Meanwhile, a kinky evening with Julia goes horribly wrong when Jeff has a Nudity Hoovering problem. Things go from bad to worse when Julia's violent ex turns up at her flat demanding to see her. Jeff narrowly avoids being beaten to a pulp, but his heart is in greater danger of being broken than his bones.

Jeff is pretty nervous about his job interview until Patrick gives him a tip, imagine the panel is naked. Jane s aunt has just died, and she wants Steve to go to the funeral with her, but he refuses and tells Susan who insists he should go. Steve can t quite pluck up the courage to tell Susan that Jane wants him to pretend they re still together. And Susan has announced she wants to go, too. Steve just keeps digging himself in deeper and begs Jeff to go as Susan s partner. Meanwhile, Susan is busy inviting Patrick to the funeral and he is inviting Sally, who has a pathological fear of growing old, to be his decoy date. However, before long, all six of them are heading up a suburban street dressed in funereal black.
