Season 5 finale. It's Jackie's one year anniversary of sobriety and she and Frank fight about their relationship. Zoey acts very professional and rigid around Prentiss. Jackie takes something she shouldn't have.
Jackie and Frank have sex for the first time. Akalitus has an extra spring in her step. Coop wants to take his mentoring of Carrie to the next level. Kevin finds a bag of pills in Grace's bag.
Kevin interrupts Jackie and Frank's night. Jackie is convinced that Grace is sneaking behind her back to see Danny, but Grace assures her they broke up. Frank urges Jackie to work on her issues - so she attends an AA meeting.
Akalitus forgets to hire an escort for a psych patient. Frank cancels his lunch date with Jackie. Zoey hears Coop and Carrie having sex. Jackie worries about Frank when news that a cop has been shot reaches the hospital.
Jackie and Grace both have to recover from their nights of indiscretion. Carrie uses flashcards to strengthen her skills but then cons Coop into doing more of her work anyway. Cruz arrives for his exit interview.
Jackie is nervous about her date with Frank, so Zoey and Thor help her get ready and Eddie offers some friendly pointers. Prentiss misdiagnoses an injured dancer. Mike Cruz calls Jackie in a moment of need.
A heavily medicated Jane Doe is brought into the ER and Jackie tasks Zoey with finding out who she is. Jackie faces conflict with both her daughters - Fiona has been acting out while Grace sneaks around with her older boyfriend.
After their custody meeting, Jackie rear-ends Kevin and wakes up as a patient in her own ER. When Carrie checks on Jackie, she writes her a prescription for Oxy, unaware she's an addict.
Jackie and Kevin are at a stalemate in their divorce mediation. Coop is angry that he isn't named Chief of the ER. Jackie, overwhelmed by the day, vents to the only person who will understand - Charlie Cruz.
Season 5 premiere. Two new doctors join the staff: Dr. Carrie Roman (Betty Gilpin) and Dr. Ike Prentiss (Morris Chestnut). Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) gives Eddie (Paul Schulze) back his old job - the day before Jackie's (Edie Falco) birthday.
Jackie is upset that Eddie and Akalitus are fired from All Saints. Grace argues with Jackie about enrolling in a new public school. Cruz claims Jackie will mess up again. Eddie and Akalitus are pleasantly surprised with the pay from their severance checks. Coop finds a picture on O'Hara's desk of a camp he used to go to, which is the same place that O'Hara's anonymous donor attended. Jackie wants to hire temp nurses because All Saints is understaffed, but Cruz does not allow it. O'Hara vents to Jackie and has a breakdown over Coop and her pregnancy.
Grace argues with Jackie about enrolling in a new public school. Cruz claims Jackie will mess up again. O’Hara’s hemorrhage patient needs surgery but she wants to leave to pick up her father, who slipped and fell. Jackie wants to hire temp nurses because All Saints is understaffed, but Cruz doesn’t allow it.
Season 4. Cruz takes revenge on Jackie's coworkers for their history of covering up her addiction; Eddie offers support for Jackie's case during his deposition to Kevin's lawyer; O'Hara finally leans on Coop.
Jackie’s meets her high-powered divorce lawyer and is told to play hardball with Kevin, if she wants to keep her kids. Eddie becomes an unwilling participant in the Peyton divorce battle. Jackie keeps the others away while Cruz suffers a panic attack at work. Having a hard time breaking off her engagement to Lenny, Zoey surveys her co-workers for the right break-up strategy. A good-natured teacher demands an apology after suffering additional injuries at All Saints. Cruz, fearing a lawsuit, instructs the staff not to engage.
Jackie wakes from a vivid dream about sex with Cruz and using again. Kevin, suing for full custody, prompts O’Hara to take action on Jackie’s behalf. Jackie and Zoey get accustomed to their new living situation at the Peyton home and ‘co-parenting’ duties. Cruz confronts Jackie about her lack of employment history and exhibits a human dimension while treating a trauma patient.
Jackie, making pancakes for the girls, realizes too late that the girls aren’t even home—they’re with Kevin. At O’Hara’s apartment, she admits that she’s just not adjusting well to living alone and, against O’Hara’s advice, decides to call Kevin and invite him to lunch that day. Meanwhile, Zoey wants to move out of her mother’s place and is placing Old West Wanted posters around All Saints, looking for a roommate. Cruz is up to his usual innovations, and is now instituting uniform scrubs for the whole staff.
