After the body of Congressman Erik Dietz washes up on the beach, Chris and Rita find an earring on the corpse belonging to Penn Rodman, his son Jason's girlfriend. When the autopsy shows the presence of a powerful drug in Dietz's blood, Chris and Rita confront Penn with the earring and arrest her as a suspect in the congressman's murder. However, concluding that she couldn't have murdered Dietz on her own, Chris returns to see Jason only to be intercepted by his overly protective sister Erica.
