Sons of the Desert

From the digitally restored sound era films of the Hal Roach library: Hardy pretends to be ill in order for the two to sneak away and attend the Sons of the Desert convention in Chicago. A doctor, who is in fact a veterinarian, prescribes Hardy to take a long ocean voyage to Hawaii. Laurel and Hardy are decked out in ukuleles, pineapples and leis on their return, only to discover their supposed ship sank. Their contrived and unbelievable story of ship-hiking doesn't work on their wives. Their story would have had some credibility if it wasn't for the fact that they had just seen their husbands on a newsreel showing the lodge's convention.
