Grammy winner John Legend traveled to Mbola, Tanzania, a desperately poor village in eastern Africa, and found heroism in mere survival. Joining forces with economist Jeffrey Sachs, Legend's Show Me Campaign (http://www.showmecampaign.org) will help raise $1.5 million for the village and Sachs's Millennium Promise (http://www.millenniumpromise.org) - an initiative that helps to transform impoverished villages into self-sufficient communities. With his efforts in Mbloa, Legend tells PEOPLE: Now they're growing more crops, making wine and preserves from fruit. They're helping themselves, rallying around each other.
