When The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet premiered on ABC in 1952, the post-war suburban exodus and baby boom were well underway. More and more Americans purchased televisions, tuning in to watch as Ozzie, Harriet, David and Ricky grew up in our very own homes. The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet lasted for 435 episodes.The heart of the show was Ozzie. For 14 years he served as the bumbling father whose earnest intentions backfired hilariously in their execution. He was forever being rescued by Harriet, the apron-clad, flawlessly coiffed, wise and loving Mom. David, the older and more grounded brother, reflected his mom s good sense. Ricky (later to become Rick ) was the wisecracking scamp of a kid brother who, as it turned out in Season 5, could really sing.
