The Mating Season

Cash-strapped widow Ellen McNulty (Thelma Ritter) leaves her humble New Jersey home and hitchhikes to Ohio to move in with her son, Val (John Lund). But when she arrives and Val's new bride, Maggie (Gene Tierney), mistakes her for household help, Ellen is too embarrassed to correct her. The error sets off a string of misunderstandings involving Maggie's parents and Val's employer, bringing tension to the newlyweds' otherwise happy home.
