The Natural is an adaption of the 1952 baseball novel of the same name. The film was directed by Barry Levinson and stars Robert Redford. The movie, like the book, concerns the experiences of Roy Hobbs, an individual with great 'natural' baseball talent. Early in the movie, Roy's father tells him that his success will involve his natural ability less than how hard he works to be successful. The remainder of the movie chronicles Roy's trials and suffering.
