The bonds of family and the power of love are pitted against the chaos of war in this lyrically evocative drama directed and co-written by its star, Golden Globe winner Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Mona Lisa). Shell-shocked by his first experience of battle, a young army recruit (Dexter Fletcher) goes AWOL. Disguising himself as a female, he’s taken in by a band of gypsies who believe the boy is a deranged magic-woman and mystical seer known as a “rawney.” But when the boy falls for the gypsy leader’s beautiful daughter, it threatens to bring the horrors of war crashing down on the entire clan.
