The Real Blonde

Writer-director Tom DiCillo lampoons the entertainment industry in this character-driven comedy about Joe (Matthew Modine), an idealistic -- and perpetually out-of-work -- actor, and his girlfriend Mary (Catherine Keener), a successful makeup artist. Eventually, a casting agent (Kathleen Turner) convinces Joe to swallow his pride, and he takes an embarrassing bit part in a Madonna video -- only to be fired after arguing with the assistant director.
