Synopsis >

When Prince Rainier of Monaco died, his throne was left to his only son, Albert II, who became Prince with wife and American actress Grace Kelly. This is only one of the events Russ Mitchell recaps in this video clip from This Day In History. The Civil War battle Shiloh was commenced in Tennessee on April 6, as well as the University of Connecticut becoming the first to hold titles for both men and women's NCAA division 1 basketball. The Olympics was also reborn after the International Olympic Committee rekindled it. The Roman's banned the games because it was a Pagan ritual, and it remained that way for 1,500 years. The first modern day Olympics were played in Athens, Greece, and 14 nations competed.
