Director Alan Rudolph spins a wholly unpredictable comedic whodunit here with Emily Watson as naïve, eccentric Trixie Zurbo, a sort-of detective who seizes her opportunity to become a real detective and leave being a secuity guard behind. Her botching of the English language, however, just might end the gig. Nick Nolte enthralls as the crooked, philandering Senator Drummond Avery, who may know more than he lets on.
