Satisfying this week s quota for epic eight-minute music video action, the Weeknd has released the visuals for Belong to the World, a song slated to appear on his highly anticipated new album, Kiss Land. Opening with some sub-titled, future metropolis melodrama, the Anthony Mandler-directed video plays things blue-tinted as it ushers up a ghostly and detached vibe. Vocally, the song finds Abel Tesfaye sticking to his sexually-amped, young hedonist schtick, as he trills, Nobody s every made me fall in love with this amount of love and coins a chorus that includes the refrain, I m not a fool/ I just love that you re dead inside. To this, the video ends with the female object of his affection performing some sort of a performance art dance which seems to verily affect Abel.Beyond the song s lavish visuals though, there could well be some impending industry drama behind Belong to the World as the track s very liberal sampling of Portishead s Machine Gun has apparently not gone down too well with the group s principal beat architect Geoff Barrow. Taking to Twitter to speak on the sonic nab, he said I think it s a load of bollox before further explaining, When someone asks to sample you and you refuse they should have the respect as a fellow artist to not use it. Your move, Tesfaye.Kiss Land is out later this year on Republic Records.
