Fabulous Irish film perfectly showcases Mia Farrow's talents. She plays the village oddball who is provided for by the upper-crust ladies. Joan Plowright also excels as the queen bee and manipulator extraordinaire. A number of plot twists and turns lead to a satisfying, surprise ending, rich in irony.
