Ross comes back from China with his new girlfriend, Julie, and Rachel has a really hard time dealing with it. She winds up sleeping with Paolo and hates herself for it. Joey persuades her to tell Ross how she feels, but when Ross tells her how in love he is with Julie, she can't bring herself to do it. Meanwhile, Phoebe has done such a great job cutting Chandler and Joey's hair that Monica begs her to cut hers. Phoebe is hesitant at first (because of Monica's 'control' thing) but finally concedes; then gets confused and gives Monica a Dudley Moore haircut instead of the Demi Moore cut she requested. And Chandler goes to Joey's tailor for some alterations and gets 'fondled;' it dawns on Joey he's been 'fondled' by his tailor all these years.
In an act of desperation, Rachel hastily throws together a going away party for Emily as an excuse to invite Joshua over. Even though Ross has a romantic evening planned for his last night with her, Emily enjoys the party and doesn't want to leave. Rachel spends the evening persuading Joshua to stay by performing one humiliating stunt after the other. When Rachel confesses to Joshua that she's only trying to seduce him he reveals that the feeling is mutual ... except for the fact that he's just getting over a divorce and it's too soon for him start dating again. When Joshua leaves, Rachel sulks to Ross who is also disappointed - his big night with Emily was ruined. Rachel reminds Ross that the night is still young. Just then, Joshua reappears and Rachel invites him in for coffee and... Meanwhile, Phoebe is convinced that the baby needs meat because all other foods are making her nauseous. When she can no longer resist the temptation, Phoebe makes a deal with Joey if he abstains from eating meat for the rest of her pregnancy, than Phoebe can cat his meat and it won't be so wrong.
Joey thinks Rachel has porn when he finds an erotic book under her bed. He proceeds to make fun of her constantly and even tells Ross about it. Furious, Rachel decides to play Joey at his own game. Monica discovers her parents spent all the money from the 'Monica wedding fund' on their beach house. When Chandler sees how disappointed Monica is that she can't have the wedding she always wanted, he offers to spend their savings to giver her dream wedding. Chandler tells her he would have liked their savings to go towards buying a house or their children's education, but Monica wants to be happy. Monica realizes that what will make her happy is simply marrying Chandler. Phoebe looses a massage client and it is partly Ross's fault. Ross feels bad and agrees to pay Phoebe for a weekly massage until she gets a new client.
Ross thinks it's disgusting when Phoebe tastes Carol's breast milk while preparing a bottle for the baby, Ben. The group is divided as to whether there's anything 'gross' about it. Meanwhile, everyone but Rachel has become friends with Julie. Monica, feeling like she's being 'unfaithful,' hides the friendship from Rachel and behaves like a guilty, unfaithful lover, buying Rachel flowers, etc. Eventually, Rachel finds a lunch receipt in Monica's jacket pocket and the truth comes out. After a girls' heart-to-heart, Rachel decides she'll try to become friends with Julie, herself. Meanwhile, a heated rivalry, a la the Old West, develops between Joey, still working at Bloomingdale's as the 'Aramis Guy,' and the new spritzer on the block, the 'Hombre Guy.'
Emily must go back to London, and Ross doesn't know what to do. When Monica convinces him to dash off to the airport, meet Emily at the gate, and pledge his love to her, the plan backfires on Ross -- Emily replies 'thank you' and then gets on the plane. Monica, being the romantic that she is, encourages her broken-hearted brother not to give up hope. But, when Emily calls Ross, she reveals that there's 'another man' in London. On a whim, Ross flies to London to fight for his girl. In the meantime, Emily shows up at the boys' apartment in search of Ross. While waiting outside of Emily's flat, Ross overhears a message playing on Emily's answering machine. As it turns out, Emily calls herself knowing that Ross may be listening and pledges her love for him as well. Ross calls Emily from a pay phone and says 'thank you.' Meanwhile, the boys discover an X-rated channel on cable and decide not to turn the TV off, for fear of losing the free peep show. Phoebe learns that she's carrying triplets. Frank and Alice, who are initially thrilled at the idea, begin to panic when Phoebe reminds them of the great financial burden this will pose. In an effort to help, Phoebe contrives a plan for her and Frank to make extra money -- she'll massage people in the back of her old catering van while Frank drives-, hence, the 'relaxi taxi.'
Rachel and Ross have their first date, at the end of which (during the kissing part) Rachel starts giggling. The next day she promises to make it up to Ross with a romantic dinner. But he gets called to the museum and has to work late and instead of disappointing Rachel, they have a picnic under the stars in the Planetarium, where they eventually get around to ... you know. Meanwhile, Monica caters a party for Dr. Burke, an ophthalmologist friend of the Geller's, and the two really hit it off. They struggle a bit with the difference in their ages but decide to throw caution to the wind. And Joey's DAYS OF OUR LIVES contract gets picked up so he buys a big TV and some recliners for the apartment and he and Chandler never get out of them.
Ross is nervous about meeting Paul Stevens, Elizabeth's dad and invites the gang to the coffeehouse for moral support. Mr. Stevens makes it clear that he doesn't like his daughter dating an older man. With the help of his friends, Ross tries to win him over, but unfortunately, Paul is not impressed. Later, Paul and Rachel bump into each other and end up hitting it off. Ross is very uncomfortable with his girlfriend's dad dating Rachel, but she assures him that it can only help him. While the four of them have dinner together, Rachel makes things worse by letting it slip that Ross was married three times. In the end, Elizabeth stands up to her dad and tells him she will continue to date Ross whether he likes it or not. Meanwhile, Joey finds out that he may be fired from his star role on 'Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.' because Wayne, the guy who operates 'C.H.E.E.S.E.' doesn't like him. To save his job, Joey strikes a deal with Wayne to show him how to be a womanizer.
Two guys come into the coffeehouse and 'bully' Chandler and Ross, telling them never to come back to Central Perk again. Ross and Chandler avoid the coffeehouse for awhile, but eventually decide to confront their fears and the two bullies. As all four guys get ready to 'settle things' with their fists, two robbers try to run off with the watches and keys the combatants have laid aside. Their common pursuit of the thieves brings them together and the bullies agree 'everything's cool.' Phoebe (with Rachel and Joey) goes to her dad's house again, determined to meet him. She is chased back to the car by a tiny, yet ferocious, dog, and decides it's still not the 'right' time to meet her dad. Driving away, she accidentally runs over the dog. The vet fixes him up and when Phoebe returns it, she meets her step-mother and learns that her dad also abandoned this family a few years back. The nice thing is, Phoebe and her half-brother meet and do a little sibling bonding. Meanwhile, Monica gets hooked on the stock market and loses all her savings (one hundred and twenty seven dollars). Totally broke, she has to take a job in a theme restaurant where the staff wears costumes and lip synchs to cheesy pop tunes.
