Gabi is put on the spot as Rafe, Hope and Sami question her about why she’s saying she’s 11-12 weeks pregnant while Nick is claiming five to six. Nick enters and tells a horrified Gabi they must tell the truth. However, Nick covers by saying he lied about dates because Gabi didn’t want anyone to do the math and realize she got pregnant by Nick almost immediately after they met. Rafe is furious, thinking Nick took advantage of his little sister. He also expresses disappointment in Gabi and takes off. Nick comforts Gabi, reassuring her they are doing the right thing for the baby by lying about his or her paternity. Meanwhile, Sami catches up to Rafe and talks him down. They have a fraught moment when the discussion comes around to their failed marriage. Later, Rafe runs into Will and – fueled by guilt – he asks if Gabi considered an abortion out of fear of disappointing Rafe. Will assures that was not the case. Rafe thanks him for being such a good friend to Gabi. Earlier, Will is taken aback when Sonny admits he does not like Gabi and wants Will to stay away from her – she’s a user and a liar. Will takes offense at being told what to do and sticks up for Gabi. He leaves upset. Later, Sami drops by the coffee house and suggests Sonny be an usher in Gabi and Nick’s wedding since they are such good friends. Sonny quickly makes an excuse to decline, leaving Sami confused. While still dealing with his disappointment over Jennifer, Daniel takes another emotional hit when he sees Kate showing Maxine a Christmas card photo of Parker. When Kate leaves the card behind, Daniel can’t help himself from stealing a look at the boy he was thought was his son. Kate catches him – but instead of being snide, she’s surprisingly compassionate and offers to tell him a little about Parker. She mentions Chloe and Philip are not together (thank God!) and Parker is doing very well. Kate learns Daniel no longer has hand tremors and saved Jennifer’s life. In a nice gesture, Kate leaves Daniel with Parker’s photo. Meanwhile, Jennifer confides in Abigail that she just realized she told Daniel she loves him while under the influence of pain medication. Abigail asks if that’s how her mom truly feels and Jennifer admits it’s true. She understands if Abigail thinks she’s betraying Jack because in a way, Jennifer feels the same way. But Abigail assures her mother that if she’s ready to move on with Daniel, she supports her. Later, Jennifer privately says goodbye to her life with Jack and makes a decision. She returns to the hospital and seeks out Daniel.
Lucas and Sami cross at her apartment and when she tells him both Rafe and EJ have backed off, he feels the need to remind her he has zero interest in rekindling things with her. Sami rushes to reassure him she wasn’t thinking that but he reminds her she’s never been the type to be alone for very long. Trust him, he’s not in denial or hiding his feelings when he tells her he’s moved on. But as Lucas says this, it gets Sami wondering if that’s just what Rafe is doing. Against this, Rafe catches up with Gabi, who says in her opinion, Sami and Rafe were good together and despite the problems, it was the happiest she’d ever seen him. Rafe’s thoughtful. Later, he and Sami meet up and he impulsively helps her with a problem Kate dumps in her lap. Sami stops him from going and asks if he’d be helping her if he didn’t care. She suggests they sit down over dinner to figure it out. Maggie finds herself facing Victor and Brady, both with disapproving reactions to the news about Melanie and Chad’s wedding. Maggie’s got her doubts for sure but doesn’t want them to overreact. Meanwhile, Melanie realizes Chad wants to leave town because of Nick but she refuses to run from her problems. Maggie visits her granddaughter, who gets worked up about everyone’s negative reaction to the wedding. But Maggie, loving, voices the things that Melanie has been denying even to herself, urging her to be sure of what’s in her heart before she takes this step. Melanie’s left to consider Maggie’s words and finally makes a decision. In a surprise move, she seeks out Nick and says it time to talk – really talk. Bo is still torn about his notion to leave the force in the face of cutbacks and Hope says if he decides to go, he should throw out the rulebook and pursue his dreams. It would be a win for both of them. Bo’s intrigued.
Chad’s paranoia continues to grow, as he sees Gabi and Nick huddling and infers that they are plotting against him and Melanie. When he gets rough with Gabi, Nick intervenes. Chad wants to fight, but Caroline kicks him out of the pub. Later, Nick and Gabi acknowledge the start of a friendship, and Chad asks Melanie to leave Salem with him – for good. Jennifer confronts Daniel, telling him she overheard EJ’s suspicion that Daniel switched Nicole’s paternity test so that Rafe appears to be the father of her child – when it is really EJ. Daniel neither denies nor confirms, but is rocked when Jennifer makes it clear she thinks less of him for committing fraud and sleeping with Nicole. Meanwhile, Nicole manipulates Abigail into keeping tabs on Jennifer. Later, Daniel tells Nicole about his run-in with Jennifer, and Nicole realizes she is a growing threat. After canceling his date with Sonny, Will blasts Sami and then Kate for passing down the family trait of screwing up one’s life. Sami and Kate confront Adrienne regarding her putdown of Will, but Adrienne sticks to her guns – she is certain Will will break Sonny’s heart – sooner rather than later. Later, Sami bolsters Will.
Jennifer is deeply concerned after overhearing EJ threaten to destroy Daniel’s career for helping Nicole. She confronts Nicole and voices her suspicion that EJ, not Rafe, is the father of Nicole’s baby and that Daniel is lying for her. The two women get into it big time, with Jennifer furious that Nicole is compromising Daniel’s integrity and his career. Nicole reveals she and Daniel slept together and implies there’s still a connection. Abigail comes in on the fight. Jennifer goes off to work and Nicole feigns concern for Abigail’s mother. She notes Jennifer’s bursts of anger since Jack died and warns Abigail not to believe anything her mother says about Nicole. Daniel learns Melanie is moving the wedding up and expresses his opposition. She’s defiant. Later, Daniel declines Maxine’s invitation to participate in welcoming Jennifer back to the hospital, explaining he and Jennifer aren’t really friends anymore. Later, Jennifer confronts him about Nicole, believing she is going to destroy his life. Sami reveals to EJ that Rafe wants nothing to do with her. Still, she can’t commit to EJ right now. She needs to focus on her kids and work right now. To Sami’s surprise, EJ’s not all that upset since is he privately planning to destroy Rafe. EJ offers advice to Chad regarding his upcoming wedding, the problem with Nick – and the complication of an unnamed girl (Gabi). EJ’s dubious about people changing, confirming Chad’s bad opinion of Nick (already stoked by what he read about Nick on the internet). Meanwhile, Gabi and Nick grow a little closer while working together. Later, Abigail drags Gabi along to help Melanie with wedding stuff. They see Melanie’s upset about everyone’s disapproval of the wedding and they promise they’ll support her any way they can. Melanie quizzes Gabi about Nick since they’re working together – she knows Gabi will warn her if it seems he’s a danger to her again. Later, Chad’s outside the Brady Pub when he sees Gabi and Nick with their heads together and he grows angry as he imagines they’re conspiring to break up him and Melanie. Sami sends Will on an errand to the Kiriakis mansion. While there, Will overhears Justin and Adrienne arguing about the Sonny getting involved with Will. Justin approves, but Adrienne most definitely does not. While she likes Will as a person, she believes he’s too screwed up for Sonny. Will’s shaken when he returns to Sami, who notes his change in mood – earlier, he seemed happy about an upcoming date. Will blurts the date was with Sonny, and he’s canceling. Sami finally gets the reason out of her son: Will thinks he’s not good enough for Sonny.
