From the rural town of Preston, Idaho, comes Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder). With a red 'fro, his moon boots, and illegal government ninja moves, he is a new kind of hero. His family consists of fragile brother Kip (Aaron Ruell), who's seeking his soulmate in online chat rooms; Uncle Rico (Jon Gries), who is stuck in his "glory" days of high school football; and Grandma (Sandy Martin), who enjoys going out to the dunes on her quad-runner. Napoleon spends his days drawing magical beasts, working on his computer hacking skills to impress the chicks, and begrudgingly feeding his Grandma's pet llama. When his friend Pedro (Efren Ramirez) decides to run for class president, it is Napoleon to the rescue to help him triumph over adversity.

When a suburban family inherits a summer home on an idyllic island, they decide to escape the big city to try and bring their family closer together. As they get settled, a mangy, injured mutt name Frank wanders into their home. Fearful of a stray pet, the father, played by Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite) tries to take the dog away to protect his family. However, the children beg to keep Frank. Seeing that this is the first time his children have united for a cause, he makes a compromise with them to nurse Frank back to health and then put him up for adoption at the end of the summer. But they soon discover the importance of FRANK in their lives and how much love he has brought the family. As Frank teaches them to be together, he risks his life to save them in ways no one imagined.

As a wagon train of westward-bound settlers makes its way across southern Utah, a confrontation with a congregation of Mormons soon leads to deadly consequences for all involved. Director Michael Polish and his twin brother Mark, who co-wrote and co-starred in the low-key, yet bizarre Twin Falls Idaho, about a woman who falls in love with a conjoined twin, follow up that modest cult hit with Jackpot. Jackpot is named for the town of Jackpot, NV, said in the film to be just across the border from Twin Falls. Like the Polish brothers' debut, it's well shot by cinematographer M. David Mullen, and is similarly full of odd, deadpan humor, but Jackpot has much more prosaic subject matter.
