Starring the incomparable Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean, this award-winning pilot episode of Mr. Bean introduces the world to the man whose outrageous exploits won over viewers around the globe. In this episode, Mr. Bean takes the exam, and finds he hasn't a clue he doesn't know the answer to a single question. On the beach, he struggles to change into swimming trunks without taking off his trousers. And, most difficult of all, he tries desperately to keep his eyes open in the church. Whatever the dilemma, Mr. Bean always finds an inventive and uproarious way to rise to the occasion.

It's quite a day for Mr. Bean! After his shiny, new credit card arrives, a shopping spree at the department store is imminent. Later, he takes himself out for a madcap birthday dinner at the restaurant. Evening finds him waiting for his date the Queen to show up at the theatre in time for the opening night of a royal film.

In ROADWORKS, a road crew begins tearing up the street outside Mr. Bean's apartment, and he'll stop at nothing to get a little peace and quiet. After attempts to sabotage their equipment backfire, Bean tries to insulate his apartment. Then he tries passing a petition. Finally, when all else fails, he resorts to feeding the crew non-stop so that they can't get back to work. But even this strategy only makes things worse for poor Mr. Bean. In THE SOFA, Bean realizes that his old sofa is falling apart. He decides to replace it with a new one, but hasn't got enough money. So Mr. Bean has a yard sale. He proudly pays for the new sofa and manages to get rid of the old one. But his brief success turns quickly to disaster when he discovers that not only is his old sofa gone, but so is the remote control to his television!

Today, Mr. Bean buys his first television. When he finds himself experiencing a spot of reception trouble, the solution is one that only Bean could have dreamed up. He's also bought himself a Polaroid camera, which he takes to the park for some fun with photography. When a seemingly friendly park goer steals it, Mr. Bean devises a cunning identity parade, during which he does his Bean-like best to sniff out the camera thief. Evening finds Mr. Bean at Club Phut, where a magician selects him to assist in the performance of a trick, and unwittingly invites disaster upon himself. Horrified, Mr. Bean runs off to the disco to take advantage of the opportunity to show off his one-of-a-kind dance moves.

True to form, Mr. Bean's holiday adventures are one-of-a-kind in this fan-favorite episode. After going Christmas shopping at Harrod's to buy lights for his tree, a quick stop for some much-needed playtime in the children's department leaves the store slightly different than he found it. Later, Bean gathers money for a Salvation Army band and tries to take over as conductor. He takes joy in the free entertainment provided by carol singing, but doesn't quite understand the spirit of Christmas when he steals himself a tree. Finally, he is given a free turkey, which he prepares in a most unusual fashion, managing to upset his poor girlfriend at Christmas Day lunch.

After getting his hand stuck in a teapot, Mr. Bean heads off to the hospital. When he discovers that numerous people are already waiting in line to see the doctor, Bean goes to great lengths to try to sneak ahead without waiting his turn. Following his hospital visit, Mr. Bean takes his camera around town and annoys a Queen's guard by trying to dress him to his liking for a photo shoot. After such a busy day, it's bedtime for Mr. Bean, but unfortunately he finds he has insomnia. He tries counting sheep but not in the traditional way.

Mr. Bean puts in his best efforts to revive a man who has collapsed of a heart attack at the bus stop and then uses an ambulance to help jump-start his malfunctioning Mini. He then loses his only postage stamp, but that doesn't stop him from trying desperately to put an important piece of mail in the post box. Mr. Bean turns out to have an innovative, if not exactly effective, way of packing suitcase before heading off on holiday. During the train ride, he has some new strategies for getting rid of a passenger who interrupts his reading. Once on the plane, he attempts to entertain a young boy experiencing airsickness.

In A ROYAL MAKEOVER, Mr. Bean watches a video of one of his favorite shows, The Queen Indoors. He decides that his walls should look like the Queen's, and then gets carried away. Soon, Mr. Bean is turning his room and the rest of Mrs. Wicket's house into a copy of Buckingham Palace. Mrs. Wicket, meanwhile, is faced with an astronomical telephone bill. She is furious with Mr. Bean when she sees what he has done with the room, but when tourists begin mistaking her house for the palace, she's happy to rake in the money. In SUPERMARROW, Mr. Bean begins growing a melon, which he plans to place in the upcoming contest. His neighbors are competing as well, and they do everything they can to sabotage Mr. Bean's melon. Will he be able to stop them from ruining his chances?

In BIG TV, Mr. Bean has Irma over to watch television, but they can't seem to agree on a program. All their fighting over what to watch causes Mr. Bean's television to explode, so he must go shopping for a new one. When he discovers that he doesn't have enough money for the fancy new television he wants, Bean sets about trying to earn some. He puts on a puppet show based on the program he was trying to watch with Irma. Soon, he and Irma are fighting about programs again, but this time on a brand new television. In KEYBOARD CAPERS, AKA THE PIANO, Mrs. Wicket suggests that Mr. Bean buy a piano and learn to play the piece he's been listening to on record. Bean does, and the finds a teacher to help him learn. Curiously, there is one note in the Beethoven that Bean simply cannot manage to play.

When his barber runs off to take a phone call, Mr. Bean mistakenly joins in with the other hairdressers in the shop but he leaves confused customers with styles that aren't quite what they asked for. Then he goes to the village fete, where his unorthodox approach to the carnival games earns him some dirty looks. He enters Teddy in a pet show and wins, but ultimately returns the prize. Finally, Mr. Bean loses his ticket home and tries to sneak into the train station, but he ends up hiding in a mail bag that's on its way to an address far from his own.
