"Paradise" depicts a fantastical paradise landscape that represents images of the imagination inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy. Birds splice through the forest landscape and across a white sky. Tall alpine trees recall the forests of Aesop's fables and German fairytales. White bubbles sensuously grow and float above a tropical flower. All is wild and alive, moving and living in harmony with its environment. Is this the Garden of Eden or a divine paradise? A tropical flower awakens and spreads its petals to sunlight filtered through the trees. Birds draw spider webs with their long tails and the video closes fading to white, the universal color from which all begins and ends. The video is presented in black and white, as if to affirm anachronistically, as Rosalind Kraus would say, the expressive value and the linguistic force of silent film and black and white photography in the sense of time, the movements, and the granulose quality of the video.
